Achilleion Palace in Gastouri (10 km south of Corfu Town) was built in 1890 for Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sissi) — neoclassical villa with sea-view gardens dedicated to Achilles.
What to see
Pompeian-style frescoes, Sissi's private chapel, the famous Dying Achilles statue (Herter, 1884) and Kaiser Wilhelm II's later additions: the Victorious Achilles bronze (8 m tall) facing Corfu Town. Garden terraces look down to the Ionian Sea.

How to get there
Blue Bus #10 from Corfu Town (San Rocco square) — 2 € one way, 25 min, hourly. By car: 15 min, paid parking 3 €. Many cruise excursions include it.
