Agios Ioannis — small horseshoe beach on Mykonos's south-west coast, made famous by the 1989 film "Shirley Valentine". The best sunset on the island with Delos silhouetted across the water.

The beach

200 m of golden sand and pebbles, calm (sheltered from meltemi wind by Diakoftis cape), crystal clear. Free public area at south end. Sunbeds at Hippie Fish 40 € pair, at Tessera 30 €.

Restaurants

Hippie Fish — boho-chic on the sand, fresh seafood, 90 €/pax dinner, sunset cocktails 18:00–20:00 (book). Tessera — Mediterranean lunch, 60 €. Apollonia Bay Hotel Restaurant — fine dining with full sunset view, 80 €.

How to get there

15 min from Mykonos town by car (parking free, fills 11:00). Bus to Ornos then walk 10 min south. By boat from Mykonos — anchor offshore (no jetty).

Delos sunset

The unique selling point: the sun sets behind Delos and Rinia islands, 18:30–20:30 depending on season. Most photographed sunset on Mykonos. Hippie Fish stages the famous sax player and live music.

Tips

Reserve Hippie Fish 1 week ahead for sunset table. Combine with Ornos beach (5 min) and Mykonos town (15 min). The cove is small — go early for best spot. Bring layers (cool when sun drops).
