Akrotiri is Santorini's 'Greek Pompeii' — a Bronze Age Minoan city of 30,000 people buried by the cataclysmic Theran eruption around 1600 BC and preserved under volcanic ash for 3,600 years.

Three-storey houses with frescoes (originals at the Athens National Museum and Fira Prehistoric Museum), drainage and toilets, streets, ceramics in situ. A modern bioclimatic roof covers the 12,000 m² excavated area. Allow 1-1.5 h.

Adults 12 € (April–October), 6 € winter. Combined ticket with Ancient Thera 14 €. Open 8:00-20:00 in summer, last entry 19:30. Closed Tuesdays. Audio guide 5 €, official guide tour 25 €.
