Cala Macarella and the tinier Cala Macarelleta next door — Menorca's most photographed coves on the south coast, with milky-turquoise water and white sand framed by pine cliffs.
Macarella vs Macarelleta
Macarella (the bigger one): 150 m, fine sand, single beach bar (Susy, lunch 35 €/pax), parasols 18 €. Macarelleta (5-min walk over the headland): 70 m, no facilities, nudist-friendly. Macarelleta has the most iconic photo.
Parking & shuttle
From early June to late September the access road is closed to private cars 09:30–19:00. Park at Sa Vinyeta ranch (5 km away, 7 € all day) and take the shuttle bus (5 € return, every 30 min, 10 min ride). Outside summer drive directly to the cove (parking 5 €, fills by 10:00).
Camí de Cavalls hike
The free, beautiful alternative: walk from Cala Galdana (3 km, 45 min) on the Camí de Cavalls coastal path. Bring water and sun protection — exposed second half. Or hike on from Macarella to Cala en Turqueta (45 min more) — three top beaches in one day.
Best time
Arrive 09:00 (before shuttle restriction) or after 17:00 (crowds gone, parking eases). Light is best in afternoon (sun hits the cove from the right angle).
Boat option
Anchor 100 m off (sandy bottom, depth 4–6 m) and dinghy in. Most boat charters from Ciutadella include Macarella in their day route.
