Cala Pregonda Menorca 2026: Mars-Like Red Sand Beach

Cala Pregonda — surreal red-orange sand cove on Menorca's wild north coast, 8 km west of Fornells. Iron-rich sand creates a Mars-like landscape with offshore rocks (the "pregonero" rock formations).

How to get there

No road — 30 min hike from Binimel·là beach (free parking, dirt road 2 km from Ses Salines). Flat coastal trail, easy. Or by boat from Fornells (25 €/pax, 20 min). Tramuntana wind: check forecast — north coast can be rough.

The beach

200 m of orange-red sand, turquoise water, framed by rocks emerging from the sea like Martian sculptures. Limited daily visitors enforced (max 200) — arrive before 11:00 in August.

What to bring

Everything — no facilities. Water (2 L/person), food, umbrella (no shade), reef shoes (rocky entry). Snorkel gear excellent for the cove walls.

Combine with

Binimel·là (start of hike) — separate red-pebble beach. Fornells village (15 min drive) — for lobster stew (caldereta de langosta 80 €). Cap de Cavalleria lighthouse (20 min) — northernmost point.

Tips

Wind direction matters: tramuntana (N) = waves, mistral (NW) = calm. Best Jun–Sep. Sunset west-facing, but path back in dark unmarked — leave by 18:00.
