Corfu is significantly greener than the Cyclades, a result of higher winter rainfall and moderate humidity. This lushness defines the island's aesthetic but also dictates the best windows for travel.
May and June: This is the prime window for those prioritizing hiking and photography. The wildflowers are in full bloom, and the daytime temperatures hover between 23°C and 26°C. While the sea remains crisp (around 19°C), the lack of crowds in Corfu Town makes exploring the Liston and the Campiello district much more pleasant. Yacht charters during this period benefit from calm seas, though the "Maistro" (northwest wind) begins to pick up in the afternoons.
July and August: These are the peak months. Temperatures frequently exceed 30°C. This is the best time for deep-water swimming and visiting the colder springs of Paleokastritsa. However, the island is at its busiest. To avoid the heat and the crowds, we recommend scheduling yacht departures for 8:30 AM to reach the Blue Caves of Paxos before the day-trip ferries arrive from the mainland.
September and October: Many seasoned travelers prefer September. The sea has reached its maximum warmth (25°C), and the aggressive summer heat has dissipated. By mid-October, the "mushrooms" (local term for sudden rain squalls) become more frequent, and many seasonal tavernas on the Northeast coast begin to wind down for the winter.

Navigating the Coast: Logistics and Transport
Corfu is a large island, approximately 64 kilometers long. Logistics require more thought than on smaller islands like Mykonos or Hydra. If you are staying in a villa on the "Kensington-on-Sea" northeast coast (villages like Agios Stephanos or Kassiopi), the drive to Corfu Town can take 45 to 60 minutes due to the winding coastal roads.
Private Transfers: We recommend pre-booked Mercedes Sprinter vans for groups. Taxis are available at the airport (CFU) and the port, but during peak season, wait times can exceed 40 minutes. Expect to pay between €80 and €120 for a transfer from the airport to the northern villas.
Vehicle Rentals: A 4x4 or a high-clearance SUV is highly recommended. Many luxury villas in Corfu are perched on steep hillsides to maximize sea views; the access roads are often unpaved or narrow concrete tracks that can be challenging for standard sedans.
Sea Transfers: For guests staying in villas with private jetties, the most efficient way to reach Corfu Town for dinner is by water taxi. This bypasses the inland traffic and provides a spectacular view of the illuminated Old Fortress. A typical water taxi from Barbati or Nissaki to the Old Port costs roughly €150–€250 depending on the vessel size and time of night.

Antipaxos
Located just 3 nautical miles south of Paxos, Antipaxos is virtually uninhabited but home to two of the most famous beaches in the Mediterranean: Voutoumi and Vrika. The sand is brilliant white, giving the water a neon-blue hue. Expert Tip: Most day-trip boats anchor in the center of the bay. We prefer to anchor on the southern edges or visit the "hidden" emerald coves on the rugged west coast, which are only accessible in very calm weather.
The Syvota Blue Lagoon
Mainland Greece is often overlooked. Directly opposite southern Corfu lies Syvota. The "Blue Lagoon" between the islets of Mourtemeno and Agios Nikolaos offers exceptionally clear water. It is a shorter crossing (approx. 12 nautical miles from Corfu Town) and provides a different geological perspective, with steeper cliffs and denser pine forests reaching the water's edge.
Packing Essentials for Villa and Sea
Luxury travel in the Ionian requires a balance of "resort chic" and practical maritime gear. The etiquette on the island is relaxed but sophisticated, especially in the private estates of the North.
- Footwear: Bring high-quality rubber-soled deck shoes for the yacht. High heels are impractical for the cobblestoned kantounia (narrow streets) of Corfu Town and the steep driveways of many villas.
- Sun Protection: The Ionian sun is deceptive due to the sea breeze. We recommend reef-safe mineral sunscreens to protect the local marine ecosystem, particularly around the sea caves of Paxos.
- Attire: Linen is the standard. For evenings at the Venetian Well or other fine-dining establishments, men typically wear light blazers or linen shirts. Women should carry a light pashmina or wrap, as the humidity can make the evening air feel cooler than the thermometer suggests.
- Tech: A waterproof dry bag is essential for transporting phones and cameras from the yacht to the shore via tender, especially when visiting the Blue Caves.

For yacht crews, a gratuity of 10-20% of the charter fee is customary if the service has been exemplary, usually handed to the captain at the end of the trip.
Sustainability: Water is a precious resource on the islands. While luxury villas are equipped with large cisterns, we encourage guests to be mindful of water usage. Avoid plastic bottles where possible; many of our premium villas now provide high-capacity filtration systems for drinking water.

Is the water safe to drink?

What is the "Meltemi" and does it affect Corfu?
The Meltemi is a strong, dry north wind that affects the Aegean Sea (Mykonos, Santorini, etc.) in summer. Fortunately, Corfu is in the Ionian Sea and is not affected by the Meltemi. The prevailing summer wind here is the "Maistro," which is much lighter and typically rises in the afternoon, making for excellent sailing conditions without the rough seas found in the Cyclades.
Can we dock the yacht at the villa?
Direct docking depends on the specific villa and the draft of the yacht. Many villas have small private jetties suitable for tenders or small motorboats. For larger yachts (50ft+), we usually anchor in the bay and use the tender for transfers. We will verify the depth and mooring options for your specific property during the booking process.
What happens if the weather is too rough for the yacht?
Safety is the priority. If the captain deems the conditions unsafe, we first attempt to reschedule the charter to another day during your stay. If rescheduling is impossible due to your departure or yacht availability, the portion of the fee allocated to the yacht (minus any pre-ordered provisioning) is typically handled according to the specific charter contract terms, which we explain in detail before you sign.
