Delos — a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the mythological birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, and one of the largest open-air archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. 30 min by boat from Mykonos. The classic half-day cultural excursion.

Ferry and tickets

Ferry from Mykonos Old Port (not the New Port) — companies Delos Tours and Mykonos Delos Boats. Round trip 25 € + site entrance 20 € (cash or card on Delos). Departures 09:00, 10:00, 11:30, 17:00. Last return 15:00 (the 17:00 is sunset only, no site visit).

The site

You have 3–5 h on the island (closes at 15:00). Must-sees:

  • Terrace of the Lions (originals in Delos Museum) — the postcard shot.
  • Theater Quarter — mosaics from the House of the Dolphins, House of the Masks.
  • Mount Kynthos (113 m) — 20 min climb, 360° views of Mykonos, Tinos, Naxos, Paros.
  • Archaeological Museum — original lions, statues.

Tips

No shade, no shops except a tiny cafeteria (water 3 €, sandwich 8 €). Bring 1.5 L water, hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes. A guided tour (35 €/person, 1 h 30) brings the site to life — without it, just ruins. Closed Mondays.
