Fira Santorini 2026: Capital, Cable Car & Caldera Walk

Fira — Santorini's capital perched 260 m above the caldera. Less postcard-perfect than Oia but the island's real life: museums, shopping, nightlife and the trail to Oia.

Cable car

Fira ↔ Old Port: 6 €/way, every 20 min, 6:30–22:00. Alternative: 588 steps (free, sweaty) or donkey (avoid — animal welfare).

Top spots

Museum of Prehistoric Thera — Akrotiri frescoes (6 €). Three Bells of Fira — most-photographed church (blue dome). Skaros Rock — short walk to medieval castle ruins. Catholic Cathedral — pink-yellow facade.

Restaurants & bars

Argo — caldera view, seafood, 60 €/pax. Naoussa — Greek classics since 1980, 40 €. PK Cocktail Bar — sunset cocktails on caldera edge, 14 €. Koo Club — main nightclub, open until 5:00.

Fira to Oia walk

10 km along the caldera rim, 3–4h one way. Best sunrise start (6:30) or sunset finish in Oia. Through Firostefani, Imerovigli (highest point) to Oia. Bring water, no shade.

Tips

Cable car queue 1h+ at cruise arrival (10:00, 17:00) — walk down or wait. Fira sunset less iconic than Oia but quieter and accessible. Park outside, walk in.
