Jardin Japonais Monaco 2027: Free Zen Garden Guide
The Jardin Japonais — Monaco's free 7.000 m² authentic Zen garden, opened in 1994 next to Larvotto beach. Blessed by a Shinto priest, designed by landscape architect Yasuo Beppu.
What you'll see
Cascading waterfall, koi pond, traditional tea pavilion (closed to public), Zen rock garden, bamboo grove, stone lanterns and arched bridges — all sea-adjacent. Authentic enough to be one of Europe's few "official" Japanese gardens.
Practical
Free entry. Open daily 09:00 to sunset (about 19:30 summer, 17:00 winter). Avenue Princesse Grace, 10 min walk from Casino Square. Closed during heavy rain or wind.
Rules
No food, no dogs, no music, no picnics — true Zen silence. Photography OK, drones forbidden. The tea house opens only for occasional ceremonies (check tourist office).
Combine with
5-min walk to Larvotto Beach (free public beach, sand artificially imported, parasols 25 €), 10 min to Grimaldi Forum (exhibitions, free atrium), 15 min to Monte-Carlo Casino.
Best time
Early morning (09:00–10:00) or weekday late afternoon — fewest visitors, soft light. Cherry blossom variety blooms late March.
