Mon Repos Palace Corfu 2027: Prince Philip's Birthplace, Gardens & Museum
Mon Repos is the neoclassical palace where Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born in 1921 — built in 1828 by the British High Commissioner, set in 100 acres of forested gardens 2 km south of Corfu Town.
The palace & museum
The Museum of Paleopolis tells the story of ancient Corfu (Corcyra) — artifacts from nearby ruins, plus rooms dedicated to the Greek royal family who used Mon Repos as their summer residence. 4 €, open 8:00-15:30, closed Tuesdays.
The gardens (free)
The 100-acre forested park is free and open daily 8:00-19:00 (summer) — pine trees, ancient ruins (Temple of Hera, Doric Temple of Apollo), and a small swimming cove at the bottom (steep 10 min walk down). Bring water — no shops inside.
Ancient ruins included
Within the park: the Doric Temple of Kardaki (6th c. BC), the Temple of Hera, and the foundations of the ancient agora of Corcyra — Corfu's classical past in one walk.
Access
2 km south of Corfu Town — 25 min walk along the bay or 5 min by bus (line 2). Free parking at the entrance. Combine with a swim and lunch at Mon Repos Beach below.
