Le Rocher (Monaco-Ville) — Monaco's medieval old town atop a 60-meter cliff, home to the Prince's Palace, cathedral and Oceanographic Museum. The original Monaco, before Monte-Carlo existed.

Changing of the guard

Daily 11:55 in front of Prince's Palace (Place du Palais). Free, 5 minutes, very popular — arrive by 11:30 for front spot. Carabiniers in white uniform (summer) or black (winter).

Prince's Palace

State Apartments open Apr–Oct, 10:00–18:00 (last entry 17:00). 10 € adult, 5 € child. Includes Throne Room, Mazarin Hall, Court of Honour. Audio guide included.

Oceanographic Museum

Founded 1910 by Prince Albert I, directed by Jacques Cousteau (1957–88). 19 € adult, 12 € child. Shark lagoon, Mediterranean aquarium, terrace view. Allow 2h.

Walking route

Park at Parking des Pêcheurs (3 €/h). Lift up to old town. Cathedral (Grace Kelly's tomb) → Saint-Martin Gardens (sea view) → Oceanographic Museum → Palace Square (changing of guard) → Rue Basse for restaurants. 2–3h.

Restaurants

Castelroc — local Monégasque cuisine since 1956, 40 €/pax. U Cavagnëtu — barbagiuan and traditional dishes, 35 €. Le Pinocchio — Italian classics, 45 €. Avoid main square (tourist trap).

Tips

Cars banned in old town (locals + emergency only). Arrive by foot/bus 1 from Port. Free entry to Saint-Martin Gardens — best photo of Mediterranean. Combine with Casino Square in afternoon (5 min walk).
