Ramatuelle is the hilltop village directly above Pampelonne beach — concentric spiral streets, 16th-c. church, vineyards stretching to the sea and the country's most respected open-air jazz festival in August.

The village

Park at the lower lots (free outside summer, 4 €/day in season) and walk up. The narrow streets follow a snail-shell spiral around the central Église Notre-Dame (16th c., free entry). Pretty squares with cafés and small art galleries.

Vineyards

Ramatuelle is the heart of the Côtes de Provence AOC for Saint-Tropez peninsula rosés. Tastings at Château Minuty (10-15 €, by appointment), Domaine de la Rouillère (free with purchase), Domaine Bertaud Belieu. All 5 min by car.

Jazz festival

The Jazz à Ramatuelle festival (early August, 10 days) takes over the open-air theatre in the village — tickets 35-65 €, world-class line-ups, sells out fast.

Eat

L'Écurie du Castellas (in former stables, Provençal cuisine, set menu 55 €), La Forge (locals' favourite, 28-40 €), Chez Tony (pizza on the square, 15-22 €).
