Pink Beach Budelli Sardinia 2027: Why You Can't Step On It & Boat Views
Spiaggia Rosa on Budelli island (La Maddalena archipelago) is Sardinia's most legendary beach — pink sand from microscopic red coral and shells. Access has been forbidden since 1994 to protect it.
Why pink?
The sand contains fragments of Miniacina miniacea, a microorganism with red shells, mixed with crushed coral and shells from Posidonia meadows offshore.
Strict no-access rules
Stepping on the sand: 500 € fine. Even taking a single grain of sand: 500-3,000 € fine. The beach is fenced off; rangers patrol. Boats anchor 100 m offshore — view only.
How to see it
Daily boat tours of the Maddalena archipelago from Palau or Santa Teresa (50-80 €/person, 9:00-17:00). All include a Budelli stop with Spiaggia Rosa viewing plus swim at neighboring Cala Corsara and Spargi.
