Villa Jovis Capri 2027: Tiberius' Palace, 45-min Walk & Salto
Villa Jovis on Capri's northeast cliff (297 m above the sea) was Emperor Tiberius' main residence from AD 27-37 — eight floors of imperial palace clinging to the rock, abandoned after his death and rediscovered in the 18th century.
The walk from Capri town
2 km uphill from Piazzetta on Via Tiberio — 45 min, 200 m elevation gain. Paved path through gardens and lemon groves, no shade in places. Comfortable shoes. Open to the public 10:00-18:00 (April-October).
What to see
Imperial baths, cisterns, the lighthouse base, the imperial loggia and the famous Salto di Tiberio — the 300 m cliff where, per Suetonius, the paranoid emperor had enemies thrown to their death. The view of the Sorrento peninsula and Bay of Naples is breathtaking.

Best time
Morning (10:00-12:00) for shade and cool temperatures. Bring 1 L water — no fountain on site.
